Where to Stay in Riyadh: Best Hotels by Area

Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre Tower at night in Saudi Arabia's capital

Riyadh’s hotel market has expanded rapidly since 2019. What was once dominated by business hotels for oil-sector executives now includes a full range of accommodation types for leisure travellers. The main consideration is area — Riyadh is large, and being in the right district saves significant time.

Al-Olaya: Central Business District

Al-Olaya is the heart of modern Riyadh — the skyscraper corridor along King Fahd Road where business, upscale dining, and major landmarks converge. The metro connects Al-Olaya with other districts including KAFD, making it the most versatile base.

Luxury (from SAR 950/night as of 2026): Four Seasons Riyadh at Kingdom Centre is set inside the Kingdom Centre Tower with direct access to the Sky Bridge observation deck. From approximately SAR 1,100 per night — the most central ultra-luxury option.

Ritz-Carlton Riyadh is a landscaped palace-complex estate with 492 rooms, multiple pools, seven restaurants, and a full spa. From approximately SAR 950 per night. The most established ultra-luxury option with the most extensive grounds.

Mid-range (from SAR 380/night): Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers (King Abdullah Road) is well-maintained and popular with business and diplomatic guests; from approximately SAR 550 per night. InterContinental Riyadh (King Fahd Road) has large rooms and multiple dining options; from approximately SAR 420 per night. Hyatt Regency Riyadh Olaya is a newer property with updated interiors; from approximately SAR 380 per night.

Budget (from SAR 195/night): ibis Riyadh Olaya is a clean, efficient budget pick; from approximately SAR 230 per night. Book mid-week for the best rates — weekend (Thursday–Friday) sees leisure travellers push prices up 20–30%.

Hittin and North Riyadh

The northern districts — Hittin, Sulaymaniyah, Al-Nakheel — have the highest concentration of upscale restaurants and newer development. More pleasant for evening walking than the central district.

Mandarin Oriental Riyadh (Hittin) is the flagship luxury option in this zone. Rosewood Riyadh is a newer addition. Radisson Blu Hotel Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter offers a strong mid-range option with a large outdoor pool, access to the DQ running tracks and parks; from approximately SAR 480 per night.

Al Malaz: Budget Stays and Old Riyadh Access

Al Malaz is one of Riyadh’s older residential districts, closer to the historic centre, Dirah souq, the gold market, and the Musmak Fortress. Hotels here are cheaper than Al-Olaya.

Centro Shaheen offers smart Rotana-group budget accommodation from approximately SAR 195 per night — helpful staff, central location, and easy Uber to the old city sights. Holiday Inn Riyadh Al Qasr adds a pool and gym from approximately SAR 310 per night, and is a 20-minute drive from Diriyah.

King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD)

The new financial district in northwest Riyadh has developed rapidly and is now connected by metro to Al-Olaya. It suits visitors whose meetings or interests are in the newer city.

Marriott Hotel Riyadh KAFD features a rooftop pool and contemporary Saudi design from approximately SAR 750 per night. The metro connection means you can reach Kingdom Centre or Al-Olaya without a car.

Near Diriyah

If Diriyah is a primary goal, staying nearby (15–20 minutes by car) reduces commuting. The Bab Samhan heritage boutique hotel in Diriyah itself is the most distinctive option. The Fairmont Riyadh Business Gate near the airport is better for business travellers with early flights but less convenient for tourism.

Practical Notes

Book accommodation early for the October–March peak season, particularly around Riyadh Season events. The Saudi National Day holiday on 23 September also generates high accommodation demand.

Weekday vs weekend: Mid-week rates can be 20–30% lower than Thursday–Friday. Book directly with the hotel for the best corporate rate if staying multiple nights.

Pool and gym access: Nearly every four-star and above hotel in Riyadh has a pool. Some properties have split-gender timeslots for pools and spas — check before booking if this is important to your stay.

Getting around: Riyadh’s metro now connects major districts including Al-Olaya and KAFD with reliable, air-conditioned carriages. Uber and Careem are available 24 hours across all districts. Budget approximately SAR 40–80 for cross-city trips. See the full Riyadh travel guide and book activities through our Riyadh tours page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best area to stay in Riyadh?
Al-Olaya (the central business district) is the most convenient for tourists — close to Kingdom Centre Tower, major restaurants, and with good Uber coverage. Hittin to the north has newer upscale hotels and a restaurant cluster. The Diplomatic Quarter (north of Al-Olaya) is quieter with green space. Avoid booking in the far south of the city where distances to attractions are large.
What is the best luxury hotel in Riyadh?
The Four Seasons Riyadh at Kingdom Centre and the Ritz-Carlton Riyadh are the established luxury benchmarks. The Ritz-Carlton is set in a converted palace complex in the north of the city with extensive grounds. The Fairmont Riyadh and Mandarin Oriental Riyadh are newer additions to the high-end market.
Are there budget hotels in Riyadh?
Yes — the Batha district and areas around the old city centre have budget accommodation. International mid-range chains (Novotel, Ibis, Courtyard Marriott) are scattered across the city. For budget stays with reasonable quality, look at the Time Hotels brand (regional chain) or Al Hokair hotels.
